Blue Lacy is a herding and hunting breed that makes a great watchdog as well as a family dog. They are highly energetic and aren’t for apartment or novice owners. Likewise, they are loyal, intelligent, and sensitive in nature. Before owning these pups firstly, know about their development phase.

A mother dog gives birth to 4-6 puppies at a time. Here in this article, you get to know the full development stage of your adorable Blue Lacy.

Neonatal Stage (0-2 Weeks)

During this period, the newborn puppies are very sensitive because they cannot see, hear, and have no teeth. Their eyes and ears are fully sealed till the second week. They only have smell sense from which they get closer to their mother. Most of their childhood is spend while eating and sleeping as they sleep 90% throughout the day.

Blue Lacy puppies cannot regulate their body temperature at this age hence, they rely on their mother and littermates for it. Any puppy separated from their group is likely to die from hypothermia. Take good care of the mother as the puppies are fully cared for by their mother.

The mother only fed milk for her babies for several weeks as they can’t eat solid food for now. Likewise, their mother also helps them to poop by licking their stomach. Also, don’t bathe at this age as the mother cleans them by licking them all over their body.

Transitional Stage (2-4 Weeks)

This is the stage where you start to see various physical and behavioral changes in the pup. Like they slowly open their eyes and ears but their vision is still blurry. In addition, they stand up and learn to walk for the first time. As they began to grow up, they start to wag their tails and communicate with their littermate in their own language.

Blue Lacy also develops their other senses as they develop. As they start to grow, they begin to wag their tail and communicate with littermates in their own language. The pup will get influenced by their littermates and mother to explore their surroundings and play around.

Socialization Stage (4-16 Weeks)

From this stage, Blue Lacy becomes more like their adult version while being more playful and mischievous. They can now eat more diverse puppy food as they like. Moreover, they become more strong and around week 8 it’s the perfect time for their training to start. Start with their basic training by teaching simple commands like “sit”, “come”, “no”, and so on.

This stage is where your dog should be socialized properly to the outer world. Socialization helps them to behave and act comfortably around strangers. In addition, it helps them to increase confidence and self-esteem. A dog who is not socialized enough is likely to fear people, get aggressive, and have serious behavior problems. Before socializing to the outer world, make sure you train them and get familiar with the surrounding.

Juvenile Stage (4-6 Months)

The juvenile Stage also called the Ranking stage is where you have to introduce yourself as their leader. Because in this stage your dog can show dominant behavior towards you. Now it’s your duty to teach them the difference between submission and dominance.

They also grow their full baby teeth by now which calls for the itchy and chewy mouth. At this time, invest in chewable toys so they don’t damage your personal belongings. Also, teach them to distinguish between their toys and your items so they don’t chew anything they like to.

At this age, you can start their advanced training after mastering all basic training. Additionally, start their agility, dog sports, and fun games during their training. These activity helps to get the active body and sharp mind. If training is hard then, send them to training classes where they are trained easily.

Adolescence Stage (6-18 Months)

The adolescence stage is the time where your dog loses his puppy face and gains his adult face. They will now act like an adult by being confident and more strong. In this stage, they have a new set of adult teeth by losing their puppy teeth. Adjust the training session and feeding to their activity level and change accordingly.
