Entlebucher Mountain Dog is a medium-sized dog from Switzerland. It is the smallest of the four Swiss Mountain dog. They are herding dogs used to herd cattle. They look like the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog but in a smaller version.
The body of Entlebucher Mountain Dog is well-muscled and they look powerful. They have a long muzzle with almond shaped brown or chestnut eyes and a triangular hanging ears. The hind leg is sloppy and strong, the back is wide with usually a hanging tail.
Origin and History
Entlebucher Mountain Dog is originated in the valley of the river Entlebuch, Switzerland from where its name was derived. They were bred as herding dogs and guard or watchdogs. Entlebucher Mountain Dog was originally bred to be an all-purpose farm dog. The farmer had set the task for them and instructed them. In summer, they would drive the cattle up in the mountain land and look after them on the grazing season. In winter, they would move them back in the valley.
The American Kennel Club accepted Entlebucher Mountain Dog in their Foundation Stock Service in 2000. AKC approved it as a member of the Herding group in 2009. Entlebucher Mountain Dog currently ranks 161 of 193 AKC’s registered breed.
