The Yorkillon is a small-sized dog that is also known by the names like Papa-Shire, Papiyork or Yorkie Pap. It is created by the crossing of the Yorkshire Terrier and the Papillon. It has a mixed characteristic that it got from both of its parents. Yorkillon is something that you want to keep by always because it got beauty, class, and grace.

The Yorkillon body is covered with long hair that comes in a variety of colors. The ears are up and the eyes are small and dark. The tail is up and sometimes come with a loop at the end.

Origin and History

The origin of the Yorkillon is unknown but it is believed to be created in the United States by some breeders. It was created by crossing a Yorkshire Terrier and a Papillon to get a beautiful looking dog that can be kept as a lap dog. Although we don’t know the history of the Yorkillon, we can look at the history of its parents.

The Yorkshire Terrier is developed in the mid-1800s in the county of the Yorkshire. It was bred by the working class of people to control vermin and rats on the clothing mills. It was also known as the ‘weaver dog’. The American Kennel Club recognized this breed since 1885.

Papillon is a toy dog that was originally bred as a companion for noblewomen. It was originated in French and dates back to the 16th century. They had appeared in many paintings with queens and princesses. The American Kennel Club has recognized this breed in 1915.

Is Yorkillon Terrier Child-Friendly?

The Yorkillon is very friendly with children and even with toddlers. They sometimes do clownish behavior that can make small children laugh. They are fun and playful that makes them great playmates with children of all age. Although they have friendly behavior, their interaction with kids should always be supervised to avoid any rough handling.

Temperament, Behavior, and Personality

Temperament: The Yorkillon has a cheerful personality that can make anyone around them happy. Due to their fun, friendly, and energetic nature, they make a great pet for small to big families.

Behavior: The Yorkillon needs to be around their people pulling their attention towards them. If they do not get enough attention that they are thriving for, they might get anxious and even depressed.

Personality: The personality of the Yorkillon is graceful and classy. They are intelligent, clever and smart so training them is not difficult. They can sometimes become quite stubborn but with patience, they can be trained.

Trainability

Training Yorkillon is easy as long as you are patient with them. They are smart so they can soak up things even from a small age. therefore, training should be done from an early age. Use positive methods of training to keep them motivated. Reward them with delicious treats and lots of vocal praises. This encourages them to be focused on the training.

Health Issues

The Yorkillon is generally a healthy breed with an average life expectancy of 12-15 years. However, they have the potential to inherit some health condition from their parents.

Patellar Luxation: It is a condition where the kneecap of your dog moves from its original place. It causes mild pain and affects the kneecap. The dog will hold its leg while walking. However, as the muscles get relaxed, the joints move back to its original place.
Hypoglycemia: The condition where there is a low level of sugar in your dog’s body is called Hypoglycemia. It causes weakness, dizziness, and sickness. It can be controlled or treated with the right diet and glucose supplements. Consult the vet for the right treatment and diet.
