Dalmatian Puppies
Dalmatian is an intelligent, playful, and sensitive canine breed that makes super watchdogs. As you see the phase of your newborn Dalmatian to adult Dalmatian, they are really adorable and delightful. But with all the happiness comes great responsibility that you need to face while they are grown.
Likewise, while Dalmatians are growing, they go through a lot of personality changes that you need to understand. Here in this article, you will learn about their changes from the newborn to the adult phase.
New Born
When Dalmatian puppies are born, they totally depend on their mother as they can’t see, hear, walk, or eat during that period. The pup only has a touch and taste sense. As the puppy relies on their mother for milk, temperature, and cleaning, it is best not to separate them.
The newborn is really sensitive so it’s best not to touch or hold them until they open their eyes or walk properly or are 3 weeks older. However, if you have to touch them be very careful as some mothers can be aggressive while being nursed. Let their mother take care of them instead create a cozy and comfortable place for them to live.
Neonatal Stage (0-3 Weeks)
In this neonatal stage, the pup starts to open their eyes, although they won’t be able to see properly for several days. Besides that, their legs also start to get strong and will try to walk using their front leg.
The puppy can’t excrete or pee on their own so the mother helps them by lick their belly. From their born day, they can’t generate heat so they rely on their mother and littermates, therefore, they shouldn’t be separated as they can die from hypothermia.
More importantly, they should only be feed mothers milk for few weeks as it produces colostrum that keeps puppies safe from health problems. They are also rich in antibodies that provide all nutrition required for their body,
Transitional Week (3-6 Weeks)
When the Dalmatian reaches 3 weeks its ear canal also starts to open and they start to hear the sound of the surroundings. Likewise, their other senses also begin to develop, and during that time they start to get along with their siblings. After that, they establish some personal traits and being to grow stronger every day.
During this time, the pup will regulate their own body temperature and wag their tails by making barking sounds. Then at the same age, they can also defecate and pee on their own without their mother’s health.
Socialization Stage (6-28 Weeks)
The socialization stage is very important for your pup as they start to have personality traits. At this age, they become more confident, playful, and independent as they already have learned to walk properly. Dalmatian also learns to interact with their mother and other littermates while biting and nipping but not in hurtful ways. Slowly the puppy needs less milk and more solid food for their development.
They now learn to distinguish between humans and doggy. They should also be interacted with family members before being exposed to the world. Then in about 7-12, weeks they can be familiar with humans and canines. After socialization, introduce them to basic training where they develop their positive behavior and leadership.
Juvenile Stage (3-6 Months)
In this stage, Dalmatian starts to lose their puppy face looking more like an adult one. They are a very energetic breed so you might see some changes in their behavior however, you have to be aware of which behavior to accept and which to correct. Your dog might also develop fearfulness where they easily get scared, for example getting scared of nowhere. Although this habit lasts over a month that is normal within this age.
Their advanced training should be started at this age as Dalmatians need intense training to dispel boundless energy. If you are comfortable with their training process at home then you can do so. But if you lack the confidence, chose other options to train them like sending them to a puppy training center. They can be rebellious and stubborn during training so be patient while training them.
Adolescence (6-12 Months)
During this stage, your dog needs proper guidance and encouragement as their personality and behavior last till lifetime. Because of their highly active behavior their tolerance for boredom is very low so keeping them active is crucial that involve hiking, running, swimming, and so on. Your dog also loses their puppy teeth and grow a new set of teeth that starts their chewing phase.
Similarly, at the age of 6 months female Dalmatian experience her first heat, on the other hand, male Dalmatian starts showing interest on them. Even they are 6 months old, breeding at the time is not recommended as their mind are fully not developed and it might affect their health.
