Bernedoodles are one of the newest breed bred by the Sherry Rupke of Swissridge Kennels in the 2003 crossing between the Bernese Mountain dogs and the Poodles.

Being a relatively new breed, it is not recognized by the American Kennel Club, but it is recognized by the American Canine Hybrid Club, the International Designer Canine Registry, the Designer Dogs Kennel Club, and American Canine Hybrid.
