Biewer Terrier is an elegant looking, long-haired dog that is covered in a silky coat. It was originally called the German Yorkshire terrier as it was bred by crossing two Yorkshire Terrier with the recessive piebald gene. Due to its small size, loving, and amusing temperament, it makes an excellent family companion.

Newborn

When the Biewer Terrier is born, they are completely deaf, blind and toothless for some weeks. They also cannot walk, so they craw to get to there mother which provides exercise to their body and helps in muscle development. The mother takes care of the puppies by providing them warmth, feeding them, and cleaning them.

Do not bathe the puppies for some weeks and keep them near their mother in a warm place. If they do not get warmth, they might die of hypothermia as the puppies cannot generate heat on their own. So, provide the Biewer Terrier a cozy place to take care of herself and the puppies.

Neonatal Stage (0-2 Weeks)

The stage between the birth and the 2 weeks of the birth is called the neonatal stage. At this stage, the puppies are weak and fragile as they have to depend on their mother for most of their activities. The puppies cannot even defecate or pee by themselves, so the mother licks their belly stimulating them to defecate and pee.

Let the Biewer Terrier puppies feed only on the mother’s milk as it is rich in colostrum. The antibodies in the colostrum keep them safe from any kind of serious health problems. The puppies also need a lot of sleep for proper development for their body and mind.

Transitional Stage (2-4 Weeks)

In the transitional stage, the puppies have lots of changes in the body. Their closed eyes start to open when they are 10-12 days old but the vision is still unclear. They can hear at the end of the second week and starts to walk little. The puppies start communicating with the littermates and their mother by whining, yelping, and barking.

The puppies are also able to eat some solid food from the plate of their mother. By the fourth week, the mother whines their puppies away from feeding milk and they slowly start eating solid food.

Socialization Stage (4-18 Weeks)

The socialization stage is the time for the puppy’s interaction with other human beings and canines. It is also the time for training the Biewer Terrier puppies some basic training which also includes leash training. When they get comfortable walking on the leash, take them to a place with people like the park for socializing.

The puppies also need the right training starting from 6-8 weeks. They are very eager to please their owner and also smart enough to soak up new instruction and commands. Start from basic obedience training till they master it and get ready to move to agility.

When the Biewer Terrier puppies are of 8 weeks old, they need vaccination against different diseases. Vaccination against distemper, hepatitis, parainfluenza, parvovirus, rabies, and heartworm.

Juvenile Stage (3-6 Months)

The juvenile stage is the period where the Biewer Terrier puppies start losing their puppy face and look more like an adult dog. They are very excited and enthusiastic at this age but are also slightly terrified. So, it is necessary to give them proper training and guidance at this age. Do not be harsh or forceful on them and establish a firm leadership upon them.

The puppies start teething and chewing on any stuff they find around them as their teeth are growing and the itching sensation makes them chew on things. Therefore, provide them with dogs toys that they can play and chew on or be ready to get all of your stuff destroyed.

Adolescence Stage (6-12 Months)

The adolescence Biewer Terrier is a physically and sexually matured dog. The female gets their first heat when they are 6 months old and the male shows interest in females more. However, it is not the right time to mate them as they are still puppies inside and not mature or ready enough to involve in mating and breeding. Therefore, the male at this time should be kept isolated from the female.

Biewer Terrier should be fed with a complete balanced diet for their healthy and happy life. Involve them in mild physical activities as they are companion dog that does not need too much exercise.
