The Polish Hunting Dog was originated in Poland as a scenthound dog breed. It is said to be developed in the 13th century when Poland was covered with deep forest and hunting was common among nobilities.

After World War, they were still used for hunting game but the number was too low. While developing the Polish Hunting Dog again, they focused more on the stronger version, so they could hunt in rough terrain and mountains too in the eastern region of Poland.

The Polish Hunting Dog was recognized by the FCI under the Scenthound Group.
