Origin

In the year 1972, a hairless puppy was born in a litter of Rat Terriers in Louisiana. The breeder gave the puppy to his friend Willie and Edwin Scott and they named the Hairless puppy as Josephine.

Willie and Edwin Scott adored Josephine very much and wanted to create more like her, so they started a breeding program after consulting various Veterinary professionals and they formed Trout Creek Kennel and kept meticulous records throughout their breeding program.

And in 2009, the American Hairless Terrier Club of America Inc. was formed by the Scotts and several other fanciers.

In 2011, the AKC added this breed to its foundation stock service and later in 2014 this breed was moved to the Miscellaneous Class.

Two years later the breed was fully recognized and moved to Terrier group.

The AHT dog breeds are suitable for apartments, as they are small in size and don’t require much space for their daily exercise. They can not bear cold weather, so in winters they need sweaters.

They are not known to suffer from high levels of dog aggression, and most would prefer to share their lives with other dogs. They usually don’t get along with other animals of their same size or larger than them.

Trainabilty

The AHT are very energetic dogs, they learn things very quickly but sometimes repetition of tasks can bore them. So you should start with easy and fun tricks.

Training an AHT is not a very tough challenge, all you need is dedication, confidence, and patience and these easy techniques will break them in succession. The most important thing you need to be aware of is if too many people train your dog simultaneously then it will harm them.
