Origin and History

The Basset Bleu de Gascogne was originated in French which is the descendants of the Grand Bleu de Gascogne. It is believed to be an ancient breed that dates back to the 14th century and was found in the Basque region that lies in the south of France. They were used for hunting wild bore, deer as well as wolves. They are very renowned in their native land, France but are not quite popular in the UK and have only been introduced recently.

The American Kennel Club has not yet recognized this breed but the Kennel Club and the FCI have recognized this breed in the Scent Hound Group.
