Boerboel Dog Diets Supplements
The Boerboel, also known as the South African Boerboel is a large-sized working farm dog. Bred for guarding and watching homesteads, their massive bodies make them excellent watchdogs.
The loyal, playful, and affectionate temperament of the Boerboel is only suitable for an active family with livestock and homestead. Here, you will know about the diets and supplements of the Boerboel dog.
Required Diet
As Boerboel is a huge and powerful dog breed, it is very necessary that it gets a complete balanced diet to meet its physical and mental growth.
Protein: Protein, one of the most important components in a dog’s health, consists of amino acids. The acids, which are also considered the building blocks, play a huge role in build and repair bones and muscles. Similarly, Proteins are also responsible for the production of hormones and enzymes in a dog’s body.
Consider providing 26% protein if your Boerboel is a puppy. For adults, you can give 23% protein in your dog’s diet.
Carbohyadrate: Carbohydrates work as the main power source in a dog’s body. Carbs acts a source of glucose for dogs, provide them heat when metabolized, and generates energy and building blocks for other nutrients. Hence, provide 50% carbohydrates in your Boerboel’s diet.
Fat: Boerboels need to have at least 5.5% fat in their diet as Fats are the main source of energy in their body.
How Much to Feed Your Boerboel?
When it comes to how much you should feed your Boerboel, you should consider its age. If your Boerboel is a small puppy, you must feed him/her at least four meals a day.
As they are developing, they will need four meals but each in a small amount. Continue providing three meals a day till your pup reaches three months old.
After your Boeorboel becomes three months old, reduced the meal to three meals a day. Again, continue giving three meals to your dog for next three months. And when your pooch becomes six months old, feed them only twice a day. As Boerobel is a large breed, it requires a lot of energy. Therefore, make sure that they get all the essential nutrients from their diets.

- Your dog might be not eating properly because he/she is sick or ill. Perhaps, it is only temporary and they should eat normally after they feel well.
- A recent vaccination or medication might cause an upset stomach or dizziness to your Boerboel. Wait until the medication leaves your pooch and they’ll start eating.
- As Boerboel is an affectionate dog, it might not eat in the absence of its owner. But once their owner gets home, they will unleash their hunger together.

Greetings
I have bought two boerboel puppies, and now they are 3 months old. I have a problem to give them the required amount of feed. The feed package is written that I must feed them at least 230 grams per day. but I’m not too sure if this requirement is ideal for a 3 months old puppy. I have also realized that they are losing weight. Please advise me.

Dog food should have less than 25% protein, 1% calcium & 1% Phosphorous. Anything over 25% protein will develop “knuckling”. I feed mine 250ml, 3 times a day (morning, afternoon & evening). If they are not eating the food, they may have parasites or something else wrong. A veterinarian can assist.
