Neonatal Period – 0 to 2 Weeks

Newborn Boykin Spaniel is born blind, deaf, and neurologically underdeveloped. They need to rely on their mother and littermates to regulate body temperature.

They can touch and taste, will make tiny squeaking noises when they are cold but will remain mostly silent. Boykin Spaniel puppies will grow rapidly, double their weight in the first 10 days.

From the second week, the puppies will be able to open their eyes slowly. Boykin Spaniel puppies will see the world and hear things for the first time. From this period their forelegs will start to grow stronger.

Transitional Period – 2 to 4 Weeks

During the second stage of puppy development growth, there is a lot more happening as the Boykin Spaniel puppies are out of neonatal stage. The puppies will now wag their tails for the first time and their fore legs will grow even stronger than before.

The baby Boykin Spaniel will start making proper dog sounds and make their first barking sound from the third week. The puppy’s vision will improve gradually and will start responding to movement and light.

You fourth weeks Boykin Spaniel will now start moving from their sleeping area as their fore legs gets more stronger. Furthermore, the baby Boykin may even want to jump out of the whelping box and chase after their mother. From this week, the puppies will start pee and poop away from their sleeping place.

The Socialization Period – 4 to 12 Weeks

The socialization period is very wonderous as you can play and run with them. By this week, your Boykin Spaniel puppy will reciprocate to your touch, love and affection.

This is the very important phase where you should build a bond with your Boykin Spaniel puppy. Moreover, socialization period means socializing your puppy to other animals as well as people.

From the fourth week, your Boykin Spaniel puppy will be able to bark more like a dog properly. Or some dogs may become noisy as well at this stage. In addition, start training them some basic commands when they reach the age of eight weeks old.

Boykin Spaniel will be able to hold on to toilet breaks for longer period of times which makes the toilet training much easier. In addition, sexual maturity begins to develop making a good time to spay or neuter your Boykin Spaniel.

About the behavioral changes of Boykin Spaniel, between 3 to 6 months they will grow more confident and independent. Which means, you should start training them about dominance and submission. Otherwise, the Boykin Spaniel are likely to dominate you.

Adolescence – 6 to 18 Months

Adolescence means when your Boykin Spaniel reaches puberty which occurs between six months to one year. Female Boykin Spaniel will start seasoning from this age commonly between 6 to 9 months. After her first seasoning, she will be able to mate and have puppies.

Whereas, male Boykin Spaniel will start showing interest to females during this development stage. Moreover, their adult teeth will start to show up replacing the milk teeth.
