The Broholmer is said to exist since the Middle Ages, and ere used as stag-hunting. After, World War II, the breed almost got extinct but around 1975, later formed the society of redeveloping the Broholmer breed supported by the Danish Kennel Club.

It is believed that the Broholmers were originated from the mixing of the local Danish dogs, an assortment of foreign dogs brought to Denmark by the Vikings, and the German Mastiff.

In 1998, Broholmer dogs were recognized by an international breed registry, FCI. Till 2009, the breed was popular only in Denmark and few other European countries but the first Danish Mastiff was imported in the USA by Joe and Kathy Kimmeth of the Broholmer Club Of The USA.

If not socialized properly, these breed can be aggressive with people as well as other pets. They are excellent guard dogs which will probably keep you out of any danger.

Trainability

The Broholmer is a challenge to train and is not recommended to an inexperienced owner because it is stubborn in nature. This is not a dog that lives to please and they will often opt to suit themselves rather than task asked to them.
