Lapponian Herder is a medium-sized dog breed that was originated from Finland. It is a very friendly and calm dog which is a member of the Spitz family.

Lapponian Herder was originally bred to herd reindeer and protect them from predators. The average height of this dog is 18-20 inches and weight is between 55-65 lbs. The coat is medium in length with a harsh and straight outer coat and soft and dense undercoat. The average life span of Lapponian Herder is between 12-14 years.

Temperament of Lapponian Herder

The temperament of Lapponian Herder is active, calm, docile and friendly. Due to its gentleness and friendliness, Lapponian Herder does very well with family and children. They are very intelligent and patience dog breeds that were used for herding for centuries due to these qualities.

They do their work very devotedly and are loyal and protective of the family members. Lapponian Herder does well with other pets at the house if raised together. They are quite dominant and aggressive around other dogs, especially with the same sex dogs. so, training should be done in time.

Lapponian Herder has a friendly and calm personality. It can adopt any situation as they are calm and patient. Being an active and energetic dog, they are always engaged in one work or the other. They are very protective of their family members and their surrounding, which makes them a great watch dog and a guard dog. As a herding dog, they tend to have dominance and superior nature over a small creature.

Training: Lapponian Herder is an independent dog who likes to do things on its own. This nature of them can make training a challenging job. However, with confident and consistence leadership, they can be trained easily.

First and foremost, earn trust and respect from them then only they will see you as a leader. Use positive methods of training by rewarding them with treats after a task is completed. They should be encouraged and motivated by using encouraging words like good dog, well done etc.

Lapponian Herder is a friendly and gentle dog which makes a great companion and playmates for children. However, it is a herding dog so sometimes due to herding instinct, they may try to herd small children. Therefore, supervision is necessary and children should be taught to approach dogs and be gentle around them.

What Makes Lapponian Herder Aggressive?

Lapponian Herder is generally a gentle, calm dog who does not get aggressive easily. However, if someone provokes them, they can become aggressive. It is a protective dog who loves its family, so if someone tries to threaten them, they might show their aggression like any other dogs.

Despite all this, they are a very gentle and loving dog who gets along well with both children and other pets.

How Do Lapponian Herder Behave Around Strangers?

Lapponian Herder is usually aloof and reserved around strangers. They are suspicious of them and if they see some unfamiliar person approaching, they will bark at them warning their owner.
