Shiloh Shepherd is a large-sized dog breed that has a similar look as the German Shepherd. It is a new dog breed that is still under development. It is larger, more strong, and have a straighter back than the modern German Shepherd.

The Shiloh Shepherd is a very intelligent, strong dog breed with a good temperament that is suited for an active and loving family. They do best in an open place where they can perform their regular physical exercise. Apartment life is not suited for them due to their size and high activity level.

Origin and History

The Shiloh Shepherd was developed in 1974 by Tina M. Barber in the United States. The main goal of her was to develop a new line of German Shepherd that she remembered from her childhood: loyal, intelligent, healthy, good family companion and large.

The FIC agreed to Tina to registered Shiloh Shepherd as a separate breed. The American Rare Breed Association has recognized this breed since 1991. However, the American Kennel Club or the United Kennel Club has not yet recognized this breed.

Temperament, Behavior, and Personality

Temperament: The temperament of the Shiloh Shepherd is loyal, outgoing, devoted, and gentle. They make an excellent family companion due to their friendly, devoted, and gentle nature. They were bred to be a gentle and loving dog that can get along with children as well as work on the farm with animals.

Behavior: As a large and active dog, the Shiloh Shepherd needs a good amount of regular physical exercise and mental stimulation for their happy and healthy life.

They also love being around its people and thrives on their care and attention. If they do not get all these activities and love, they will get depressed.

Personality: The personality of the Shiloh is very alert, active, and protective. They are very loving of their people and suspicious of strangers. Their trust issues with strangers make them excellent watchdogs as well as a guard dog.

They are a very independent dog that likes to do things on their own but with the right training, they can be a very obedient dog.

Training Shiloh Shepherd is not a tough job to do as long as you are an experienced dog owner who can train them with consistency. They need a firm and patient dog owner and positive methods of training.
