The Yorkie Russell is a small-sized, fun, lively dog that does well as a family companion. It is also known by names like Jorkie or Yorkie Jack Russell mix. It is not a purebred breed and is created by crossing Jack Russell Terrier and the Yorkshire Terrier. They do best with both a family and a single person in an apartment.

The Yorkie Russell appearance can look a lot like either a Jack Russell Terrier or a Yorkshire Terrier. The body is strong with a coat that can be straight and long or wire-haired. The muzzle is of medium length with a round head and round eyes. The ears are either upright or just hanging down.

Origin and History

The origin of the Yorkie Russell exact date is not sure but it is created by crossing two purebred breeds, Yorkshire Terrier and the Jack Russell Terrier. It got its name by the blend of its parent’s names. However, we can look at the history of its parents.

The Yorkshire Terrier is originated in Yorkshire, England. It was bred by the working class people and also mostly used by them. They used to control rats and vermin in the clothing mills. The American Kennel Club recognized Yorkshire Terrier in 1885.

The Jack Russell is originated in England for the purpose of fox-hunting. It became very popular among huntsman and by 1930, it was well known in the USA too. It was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1997 and it changed its name to Parson Russell Terrier in 2003.
