The Barbet is and ancient and rare water dog and was first originated in France. They are extremely friendly, playful active breed and are always up for a new adventure.

The Barbet are medium sized dogs who stands up to 20-25 inches tall which range from 37-62 pounds. Barbet are dogs with long tail which are not carried over its back, with body full of beard.

Origin and History

This extremely rare breed has an unsure history. They are considered to be the ancestors of Poodle, Griffon. Otterhound, and many other breeds. This breed was originated in France and recently known as french water dog. They were bred for hunting water game.

The breed nearly went to extinct after the World wars I and II, but luckily a devoted group of breeders helped to keep the presence of the historical dog alive. And now in recent generation they are less common. We can see there are only 30-40 Barbets in US.
