Greenland Dog is a medium to large-sized breed that was used as a sled dog in the polar regions of the world. The husky-alike breed is confused with many other breeds like Canadian Eskimo Dog, Siberian Husky, or the Alaskan Malamute. However, all these breeds are different from each other and are not related to one another.
As for now, they are known and valued for their strength and speed. The Greenland Dog does well in drawing sleds, racing, and hunting. In addition, they are great watchdogs and very protective of their owner. Furthermore, they don’t require abundant grooming and maintenance.
Origin and History
Talking about the origin, the Greenland Dog is said to be originated 12,000 years ago and then first originated in Greenland around 4,000 years ago. Then they were brought to North America from Siberia by the Thule people around 1,000 years ago. It is believed that the Thule people relied on them for transportation from Siberia back in those days.
Behavior traits of Greenland Dog
These breeds are high-energetic, independent, and loyal dogs however they might show personal traits while growing up. Sometimes they get handful because of their stubbornness hence, an experienced owner handles these breeds better.
Being a working breed, Greenland Dog is taught to follow a strong owner so show them you are the pack leader to avoid bad behavior from the beginning. Despite being very demanding and rebellious, these breeds are sociable that makes great family companion.
These breeds are not suitable for apartment owners as they need large space to play and run. They tend to bark more than average dogs if proper exercise or entertainment is not provided. As a result, Greenland dogs can get destructive if they didn’t get enough tasks.
Trainability
The Greenland Dog is an intelligent breed that is easy to train with firm and consistency however, they aren’t recommended for first-time owners. They follow the strong leader so show yourself as the alpha or else they might be one what makes training harder.
They are an intelligent breed that soaks up training sessions easily with proper socialization. In addition, include reward-based training with positive reinforcement that keeps them motivated. Always end their training with praise and treats.

To any family owner who wants to pet Greenland Dog, go for it as they are wonderful pets best suited for a family. They are friendly and make good friends with children.
