The American Staffordshire Terrier is originated in the United States Of America in the 19th century which are nicknamed as Amstaff. With a muscular physical appearance, big head and mouth, the American Staffordshire have a powerful look. The eyes are wide set which is mostly in brown in color and the ears are short and set high on the skull.

The American Staffordshire ancestors were powerful dogs that were used for bull baiting and pit fighting. Luckily, the government banned such fighting and they were used as a show dog.

The United Kennel Club recognized this breed on February 10, 1898, and the American Kennel Club recognized this breed in 1986 under terrier group.
