The Hanoverian Scenthound is a medium sized breed of dogs that originated in Germany for the purpose of hunting and tracking small games.

The Hanoverian Scenthound are believed to be descended from bloodhounds of medieval times. It is also known as the Hanover Hound and is a very rare breed.

Origin & History

The Hanoverian Scenthound is a German breed of dogs which remains the same since they were bred.

With the invention of firearms, methods of hunting have changed a lot. Dogs were needed to search for the wounded preys that were shot by the hunters. The Liam Hound proved to be the best for this need and so after then, it became a Liam-Scenthound.

The Hanoverian Scenthound was further developed and preserved in the hunting region of Hannover. Registered in 1894, the Verein Hirschmann E.V. club has been taking care of the breed where it was established.

The Hanoverian Scenthound is recognized by UKC and FCI. It is not yet recognized by AKC but is kept under the Foundation Stock Service group (as of March 2019)which is the first step of registering a breed.
