Peekapoo is a small breed, a result of the crossing of purebred Pekingese and a Poodle. It inherits the friendly and affectionate personality from it’s Pekingese parent and like it’s Poodle parent highly intelligent and hypoallergenic.

Peekapoo is a perfect family companion and is hilariously loyal and protective. They are loving dogs and there are certain things you should know about these small pooches.

Origin and History

Peekapoo is one of the oldest of hybrid developed in the 1950’s crossing between Pekingese and Miniature Poodle dogs. The goal was to produce a designer dog with less shedding suitable for people with allergies.

The Peekapoo breed gained its popularity around 1960 but despite its popularity, it doesn’t have any breed club. Due to its small size and loving personality, it has won the hearts of millions and has made a way to the home of many.

Are Peekapoo Child-Friendly?

Yes! Peekapoo is child-friendly since they are friendly with everyone and are gentle towards kids. It is naturally rambunctious, suspicious, and loud. They might get wary of children they don’t know but if introduced properly, they will become their best friend.

It is essential to teach your child how to behave with a dog. No matter how friendly the breed is, you should never leave your child alone with your pet. Peekapoo is rambunctious and may become rough players while playing with your child.

Temperament And Personality

The Peekapoo is a loving breed who is devoted to its family. These breeds love their family and are highly protective of them. Peekapoo makes an ideal family pet with a gentle and combative personality. They are excellent watchdogs with vicious barking ability.

Peekapoos are naturally suspicious of strangers but won’t show any aggressive behavior until they sense any unusual.

Peekapoo Dog Makes Sure Nobody Disturbs Its Favorite.

Temperament is affected by a number of factors like socialization, heredity, and training. If they are trained and socialized properly they will be the perfect companion you can ever imagine. With saying this, also means they love spending time with their family. Peekapoo hates being left alone and loves sitting in the lap and being a couch potato. These breeds have even temperament and are non-aggressive.

Trainability

Training a Peekapoo is not so easy as you think. Since they are a small breed with both Pekingese and Poodle mixed, they are quite stubborn and may tend to dominate you. While training the Peekapoo, you should be consistent and have patience and will need firm leadership for easy training.

Harsh training is not suitable while training because these breed are very sensitive and will simply ignore your commands. Positive reinforcements and treats may help you with training. In addition, Peekapoo are quick learners which will make training easy if you know how to train them in a right way.

Common Health Issues

Peekapoo dogs are a generally healthy breed with no serious health issues. However, the following health issues are seen common among the Peekapoo breed.

Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease: This disorder involver hip joint, particularly in small breeds. In this health issue, the blood supply to the head femur is decreased, and the head of the femur that is connected to the pelvis degenerates.

American Kennel Club cannot register the breed because of being a hybrid.
Peekapoo is registered in the American Hybrid Canine Club in the name Peke A Poo.
Even today, the breeders don’t breed Peekapoo with Peekapoo, they are still crossed between the Pekingese and purebred Poodle.
