Taiwan dogs are the descendants of the South Asian hunting Canines which were known as a pariah or primitive dogs. These dogs hail from the regions of Taiwan and were considered to be a loyal companion of the ancient hunter in the forest.

Taiwan was bred to find games for the local tribes of Taiwan. It was also used for hunting and guarding purpose. Moreover, a time came when dogs of this breed became nearly extinct because dog eating culture of Chinese was introduced in Taiwan.

Thanks to Dr. sung Yuing-yi who brought together a group of Taiwan Dog fanciers in 1970s and began to resurrect the breed and they were able to locate about 160 dogs of this breed in the Central mountain region.

The Taiwan Dogs make good playmate with children but do not make a good option for families with toddlers and young children, the reason behind this is that these dogs are known to be very primitive and instinctive dogs with a dominant personality and high prey drive.
