Origin and History Of Komondor Dog Breed

The multi-purpose breed Komondor is known to come from Hungary where they were bred as a flock guard. It is believed that its ancestors were brought to Hungary by nomads called Magyars and is also believed to be related to the Caucasian Ovcharka.

Komondors were recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1937, but after World War II they were not allowed to import from Hungary and the breed suffered and its quantity started to decrease. But Breeders of Hungary and the United States reconnected in 1962, and again they were pulled back from the brink of extinction.

Today the Komondor is ranked 154th among the dogs registered by the AKC.

The Komondor’s are considered to be gentle with children but as like with all other breeds they are also recommended to supervise all the time with children to prevent accidents.
