The Beauceron, also nicknamed as Bas Rouge is a large, muscular and well-balanced graceful dog. They are a herding breed which falls in a working dog category. Like any farm dogs, Bas Rouge served as a multiple purpose dog from delivering animals to guarding farm and property.
Bas Rouge is an active, intelligent, smart working dog and an excellent watchdog. They are the athlete and needs a lot of exercises. They should be taken out to work or to play very often.
Origin and History
Beauceron is originated from France whose name is derived from the Southwest of Paris. This versatile breed used to herd and guard sheep and cattle. They also used to hunt wolves and wild boar. It is said that Beauceron is used to create Doberman Pinscher. They worked as a cattle guard but also they served in both World War I & II as a mine detector, messenger, soldier, bodyguard, and rescuer.
Bas Rouge was recognized by American Kennel Club in 2007 and registered as herding group. They have been recorded in The Foundation Stock Service since 1998.

The Beauceron is good with children if brought up together. They are gentle and loving towards children and adores them. They are protective of children and are very less likely to turn aggressive towards them even when the child plays rough.

Bas Rouge is slow in mental development. They are not fully matured until the age of about three years so, their training session should not be rushed in their puppy-hood. Just take 5-10 minutes play-training exercise at an early age. Increase the time and load of their exercise and training on their adulthood.
